Traditional management of conditions like chronic bronchitis and bronchiectasis often involves manoeuvres like postural drainage in which sufferers are encouraged to increase their breathing volume. At the Buteyko Breathing Clinic we believe that this is inappropriate, recognising that coughing and hyperventilation are pro-inflammatory and may exacerbate the problem.
Our approach is breathing exercises and lifestyle guidelines that help relieve coughing and reduce the underlying inflammation by helping to normalise breathing. As breathing improves, mucus production reduces and inflammation can begin to heal.
