After 27 years as a professional international musician, I have
learnt a lot about stamina, resilience, and performing under
pressure. My career took me to the global stage, touring and
recording with some of the biggest names in music—but behind
the scenes, the relentless schedule and a hedonistic lifestyle
pushed my nervous system to the brink and eventually took a
serious toll on my health.
When my nervous system collapsed, I was forced to stop and reevaluate
everything. A doctor recognised the signs of chronic
hidden hyperventilation, something I had never heard of, and
referred me to a Buteyko breathing clinic. At that point, I could
barely walk myself through the door. But one week into the
course—after fully committing to the method—I felt different.
It was the moment I realised: my breathing had been part of both
the breakdown and the recovery.
The results I experienced from retraining my own breathing were
so profound, they genuinely shocked me. It became clear just how
much my symptoms were tied to the way I was breathing—and
how quickly things could change with the right approach. That
experience led me to become a certified Buteyko Institute
practitioner, completing my qualifications in 2018.
Now, I help others discover the same powerful connection between
breathing, symptoms and wellbeing, supporting them to take
control of one of the most overlooked keys to health.
